Students are introduced to 3D scanning, photogrammetry and printing through hands-on learning activities using a 3D scanner and printer.
Producing high-accuracy 3D representations of scanned objects allows students to reverse-engineer parts and design original assemblies that interface with scanned objects.
There are numerous opportunities for using this technology to benefit students in engineering as well as other courses and projects.
Third-year Mechanical Engineering Technology students in the design option take a course called Emerging Technologies, which is listed on the Environment and Sustainability Certificate. In collaboration with Dawson’s Sustainability Office, students often volunteer to help build or repair equipment.
