- Students are introduced to 3D scanning, photogrammetry and printing through hands-on learning activities using a 3D scanner and printer.
- Producing high-accuracy 3D representations of scanned objects allows students to reverse-engineer parts and design original assemblies that interface with scanned objects.
- There are numerous opportunities for using this technology to benefit students in engineering as well as other courses and projects.
- Third-year Mechanical Engineering Technology students in the design option take a course called Emerging Technologies, which is listed on the Environment and Sustainability Certificate. In collaboration with Dawson’s Sustainability Office, students often volunteer to help build or repair equipment.
