Lost Languages, Lost Civilizations
The project is a four-day trip to New York City to expose and guide students around the world's great melting pot.
Before departure, students will be asked to photograph a variety of Montreal scenes. Students in teams or individually could visit places like the Basquiat exhibit at the MMFA, jazz venues or ethnic restaurants in Montreal neighbourhoods.
In New York, they will visit sites, such as Ellis Island, and meet all kinds of communities and taste food from Latin America to the Hindu Kush. In addition, they will see great representations of what has been lost and still remains of civilizations at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Met Cloisters, the Morgan Library & Museum and more. Music will also be part of the experience: students will listen to Jazz, Gospel and Hip Hop.
The New York Public Library is where students will reflect and synthesize their work and keep up with their course work while away. The learning community will compare the Montreal mosaic captured before departure to the American melting pot encountered on their NYC experience.
