MakerSPACE Research and Development

• Grounded in the best practices and principles of the maker movement and of active learning pedagogies, MakerSPACE Research and Development is part of an ongoing multistage project within the SPACE initiative at Dawson College.
• It will afford unique interdisciplinary learning and teaching opportunities supported by the creation of next generation STEAM curriculum and a set of targeted co-curricular student projects and activities to be run out of the 7A.3 makerspace.
• The specific MakerSPACE projects made possible by SAEF funding are to be embedded in ongoing collaborations and require special hardware, material and tools to implement. These projects include:

1. 1. In conjunction with the Sustainability Office, the construction of a coarse-grained sensor map (temperature, humidity, etc.) of the college campus to better understand over time how it is possible to have highly localized impacts on climate (Urban Heat Island Effect).
   2. With Dawson Robotics and to enact a "Robotics-for-All" approach that exposes students of any background to the basics of robotics, this project will provide opportunities for students to contribute to the development of new activities and to mentor peers. A set of dedicated robotics kits will be used for this purpose and also be used in a mini-hackathon event that will involve demonstrations and a navigation challenge.
